Well, it looks like mother's day is the last time that we have updated our blog. Looks like the blog got crowded out in the midst of our summer activities! I won't say much here except to give a brief update on things.

Sadie had her first birthday in June...a butterfly party. Abram turned 3 in September. We've taken vacations to the beach and to a family retreat at Lake Forest Ranch. Shea and I went to New Orleans for a weekend...WITHOUT THE KIDS! It was the first time we had both been away from Sadie overnight, and we had a wonderful weekend together. Shea and I also had a first together by completing a triathlon in June...a short one but still a triathlon.

Sadie started walking this summer, although she's back to crawling for the time being as she had a "toddler fracture" after a fall in September. Her doctor says it will be fine by the 1st week of October. Abram is old enough now to attend Sunday school (instead of the church nursery), as well as our church's Wednesday night kids program (Awana), and finally a 2-day-a-week mother's morning out program.

Shea and I have both been challenged in our relationships with each other and with those around us. There have been numerous "teaching moments" for each of us, and we are grateful for God's patience and goodness in our lives.

I'll close with a couple of pictures of Abram and Sadie from our neighborhood 4th of July parade. Here's to a more "connected" fall blogging season!

Day at the Farm

We had a great Easter weekend at our home this year. We have an amazing God who in His sovereignty, loved us so much that he sacrificed His own SON...just so that we can be made blameless. Jesus's death on the cross and power over death fully satisfied God-we are free!

A Noteworthy First

We've had a lot of "firsts" lately with Miss Sadie. She is crawling, waving bye-bye, pulling up to standing on EVERYTHING, even cruising along tables, toys, and her brother. She's eating all kinds of things...and cries everytime a meal is over. My life is busy and I don't get to post about all her firsts, but I had to show you all these pictures of Sadie's first pigtails!

I love this little girl and it is very fun to do silly things like this!

We had fun in the snow on Friday. We had about 3-4 inches of great, fluffy snow. (This is a big deal in Jackson, MS!)

And here is our sweet Sadie! She is now five months old. She smiles, babbles some, has started solid foods, and is such a cutie! Her smile totally melts us. She is sleeping better and likes the Bumbo seat and her jumper. She seems to be showing her little personality more...which is so fun. She also loves to be outside and to listen to her crazy brother talk about everything!

We had a great time at the fair this year. It was cold and windy, but Abram had a great time riding the pony and going down the big slide with dad. Mom and Dad enjoyed yummy fair food (thank you Penn's and the free biscuit people). Sadie slept the whole time!

Well, we found the camera cord, but then we packed it in a box and moved! Anyway, we've been a little busy, but I am finally committing to updating our blog. It will take many posts, but I'll try to get them out ASAP, while my parents are watching the kiddos.

Part 1 Abram's 2nd Birthday Party (Sept. 6th)

We went to a park and had a bug party. You'll see pictures of the cake, dirt and worms, cousins, watermelon, and the swing. These are some of Abram's favorite things.

FYI - if you leave a frosted cake in the Mississippi heat for too long, the frosting starts to drip off the cake!

Poor Sadie! These are the Jackson cousins, minus one newborn boy, with four more cousins in IL!!!!! Three of those are boys too!

GUYS....I can't find the cord to the camera, so I can't upload new pictures! UGH. We've had a lot going on here. Abram turned 2 and we had a fun bug party for him. Sadie is really changing a lot, and smiling a lot. Too cute! And we've sold our home, bought a new one, and will be closing next week. As soon as we find the missing cord, or go buy a new one, I'll show you all the family and home. Sorry!

A Trip to The Big Easy

We went to New Orleans for my cousin's wedding this weekend. We had a great time visiting with family. Our kids were very flexible and Daniel and I enjoyed the brief getaway.

Here are some impromptu pictures. Sadie is definitely gaining weight and growing well. She is a good baby, but is a newborn...so she likes to cry. Especially at night. We are making it with two and are grateful that God gives us energy and that Abram is patient with this transition.

Sadie looks a lot like Abram when he was this age....which is alot like my baby pictures. Sadie's stick out hair has arrived sooner than Abram's did though!

What we've been up to lately...

SIGHHHHHH...........This is how we all feel around here.

We've been busy around our house getting Abram into his big boy room and making necessary preparations for Sadie. I'm 38 1/2 weeks and have learned that even in the nesting phase of life, my procrastination runs rampant.

Daniel and I decided to do a lot of "home made" decorating for the two kids' rooms. The sewing and decorating was completed by yours truly, while Daniel built an awesome bookshelf for Abram. I did paint the bookshelf, but Daniel has moved and organized all of the furniture in both rooms.

We have nothing on the walls yet, but we will post more pictures when everything is finished.

And here is what we have so far for Sadie's room...same applies with the walls. We'll post when it's finished.

In full disclosure, a sweet lady from church sewed this pillow for us...not me.

Anyway, we are getting much closer to meeting Sadie! My next appointment is in two days, and we'll learn about possibly inducing on Monday/Tuesday the following week. We'll let you know when our daughter arrives!

Well here I am at 35 weeks and just now showing my face (and belly) to the world wide web. Does this get me out of the dog house with a certain friend????? My next appointment is 5/21 and I'll have an ultrasound to determine baby size and my first of many exams. I feel good but tired most days. I am definitely losing my range of motion by the second and Daniel often has to help push me out of bed in the middle of the night for potty runs. I've started swelling just a little and I'm probably on my 5th bottle of Tums, but hey...it's all worth it right? This weekend begins the major switch of rooms at our house. Abram will get a big boy bed and Sadie's room will have some pink added. As we accomplish these tasks, I'll post pictures. The picture below shows you one of Abram's favorite things in the world...the "bowl." Anytime we drive past water (ex: the Reservoir) he says, "Bowl!" I can't wait to get him in the pool this summer!

Maybe the next post will include some potentially embarrassing photo of Daniel. Until then, it's just Abram and me showing ourselves to you dear friends and family.

Happy (late) Easter from the Scarbroughs. We are in fact still alive and well...though incredibly busy these days. We've made it through another busy season with Daniel's work. WOO HOO! We are now in crunch mode before Sadie arrives. Yep, our daughter does have a name...Sadie Margaret Scarbrough. And she should arrive in about 2 months! This has been such a fast pregnancy, but we are very excited about meeting this little girl! Here is a picture from Easter of us. Notice how I managed not to get the belly in this shot! Abram loves to ride his 4-wheeler and push his mower...both in doors and out. He loves to go outside and we've had some nice weather that allows for this, even in Jan/Feb.

Abram is learning how to feed himself with a spoon. He's actually really doing well these days.

Our last post was dated sometime in November I believe, and the words used there were something to the tune of "I'm back." Well, obviously you now know to never trust anything you read from this blog...except what's typed below.

Shea (the pregnant one) and Abram (the wee one) are both napping, so I (the awake one) am following instructions from my wife, given to me just as she fell asleep still fully dressed from church, to update the blog.

Things contine to be crazy, but isn't that true for all families? I'm in the middle of my busy season, so I'm working a lot (hence, the name "busy season"). Abram is an active little 18 month old boy with the bumps and bruises to prove it. Shea's pregnancy is going well. She's 24 weeks now, and if you haven't heard, we found out in January that we are having a baby girl! Very exciting!

We'll see if, in the future, we can't blog a little more often than once every 3 months. Hope you are all well. Take care.

I'm back...

And I promise to be more regular about posting. To make a long story short, I haven't had access to a computer while Daniel has been studying/traveling...but that will be on hold during the holidays.

Anyway...greetings from our family of FOUR. That's right...baby #2 is on its way. Our due date is June 13th, which makes me 11 weeks today. I had a sonogram on Thursday and everything looks great. The little one was moving all around and has a great strong heart beat. Abram is going to be such a great big brother (we hope!) and can say "baby" when you bribe him with food. He's so fun these days...running everywhere, talking up a storm, and acting so silly at times.

(Don't be suprised if you receive a similar looking photo with a Christmas card!)

As Thanksgiving approaches...We recognize how thankful we are for our little family and how God continues to graciously bless us in so many ways. Most of all we are thankful that God loves us so much that He was willing to send Jesus and have Him take on our sins' penalty (death)...just to have a relationship with us. Happy Thanksgiving!

Well...Abram did in fact have a birthday and a party almost a month ago. Sorry I haven't posted in quite some time. Daniel needs the computer to study for the CPA test at night, and if you are a mom, you'll understand why I don't post much during the day.

Anyway, enjoy the pictures! We had Abram's party at a park nearby and enjoyed spending the time with our family and friends.

When did this sweet baby get so big?!?!

Just to share a few of our latest adventures:

I am now officially home full-time with Abram! He is such a fun little guy and I can't wait to enjoy each day with him.
Abram is good at mimicking sounds, facial expressions, and even words. He says Dog, Up, Side (outside), Cow, Dada, Uh oh, Stop, Truck...even if he doesn't realize he's saying real words all the time.
He LOVES going as fast as he can behind his push toys. We have to jump out of the way to save our ankles on a regular basis.

Abram has two push toys that he can't get enough of. Anytime of day you can find him somewhere in the house speeding/crashing all along the way. He is definitely on the move, though not walking just yet.

It's fuzzy because he's on the run.

Abram has discovered the wonderful world of bubbles! He gets the biggest kick out of watching them float all around him. I truly love the pure excitement and joy he shows over new things.

MIA from the world of blogging

No pictures today...just some updates on our family. Since the last post we've been quite busy.

Daniel has starting a CPA review course and has taken the Audit section of the test. I'm so proud of his hard work and committment to the intense studying. He plans to take all four sections this year, hearing back in December about his scores.

Abram is doing great. He's so fast behind his walking toys these days. He is also saying dog, up, and a lot of other "words." He loves to do things to make you laugh (like clicking his tongue and smacking his lips) and then keep on doing them again and again and again. (He must get that from Daniel.) We can't believe he's about to turn one!

And as some know, I will be staying home full time with Abram starting in September. We feel God leading us in this decision and want to obey. It is not the easiest thing for me, as I really respect my employer and enjoy what I do, but I'm trusting God that my emotions will not lead me but He will.

Anyway, we would love to share more with those who are interested, and look forward to what God has in store for our little family.

And don't worry, I'll post pics soon!

Last weekend we made the most of our time together. Abram and I were tired of being stuck inside, but Daniel needed to wash the cars. SO...we joined him. Kind of. We had fun!

The Scarbroughs celebrate July 4th (part 2)

Thanks for loving our family and patiently looking at all of our pictures! The highlights of Abram's first July 4th (other than playing with NeeNee, Grandpa, AJ, and Unc) were his new toys and the pool. In every picture of him in the swing he had a HUGE smile on his face. We had a cookout at AJ and Unc's house on Saturday. Abram was such a good little guy! He even got to try homemade ice cream!

Notice the breeze blowing through his hair! He loved to swing high.

He can stand for a few moments by himself, but he's not walking...yet.

The Scarbroughs celebrate July 4th (part 1)

We enjoyed the week of July 4th in Tupelo with my (Shea's) side of the family. We spent as much time as we could in the pool! As you can see the whole family (including The Beast) had fun.

Swimming lessons for both Abram and Jackson. Yes, our Golden Retriever needs help swimming. We like to think he is....special.

Olympics 2012...here we come!

Adorable!

Abram has done quite a bit of growing up these past two weeks. He's learned how to use his sippy cup, mastered the art of crawling, and can't get enough of pulling up and standing. And big news...his hair is starting to lay down a bit. (Honestly this is a little sad for me, but there are more important things in life than crazy hair.) Anyway, Abram is so fun and keeps Daniel and I laughing all the time. Enjoy the pictures.

Abram always practices his pulling up and standing. Lately he likes this view from his room. You can rest assured that he's tested the endurance of the glass. This kid loves to hit things.

Abram loves to pull out all of his books and throw them on the floor. There are a couple that he actually enjoys "reading." The others he uses as drum sticks on the brick hearth.

And lastly, just thought I would show off some flowers from my yard. This is a big deal if you knew how many of my other plants died!

Big Cedar Vacation

We just spent a week at Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri with Daniel's family. We had a great time and appreciate Nana and Pop making this trip a possibility. We'll probably post other pictures, but for now enjoy these.

We had a photo session with the whole family (hence the white and denim), but snapped this prior to meeting with the professional. Abram was a good sport!

This is our favorite picture from the whole trip. We took a pontoon boat out on Table Rock Lake one day. One chilly, cloudy day. Anyway, the life jacket was hilarious and the views were amazing.

Before coming home we made a quick trip to Sedalia, MO to visit some friends. Abram loved riding the 4-wheeler for the first time!

A trip to Tupelo and a Baby Dedication

Abram and I enjoyed a brief trip to Tupelo to visit my parents and sister. We enjoyed some R&R and some good company. No pictures to document the event, but Abram visited Neenee at her school one afternoon. A couple of Abram's highlights are as follows:

Spending some quality time with Grandpa on the screened porch.

Eating green beans in The Man's Club (a.k.a. Grandpa's workshop). This female was given special permission to enter as I had the youngest and newest member with me.

On 4/27 we dedicated Abram to the Lord at our church. What an important thing as parents we can do to publicly admit our son is a gift from God and we are entrusted to "train [Abram] in the way he should go." (Prov. 22:6) Both sides of the family were able to join us for this great day.

Well Abram has been compared to Billy Idol with his hair, but if he keeps doing his new trick he'll soon be compared to another rocker. He just recently discovered how fun it is to stick out his tongue as far as he can and "lose his lips." Bath time was a blast tonight so I captured some fun faces with the camera. Enjoy! (Oh yea, he'll appreciate the imposed modesty when he's 15!)

Abram and I were able to spend a beautiful afternoon with some good friends at the Reservior. These two guys have so much fun together! Reeve is about 10 weeks older than Abram and they enjoy time together almost as much as the mommies do.

(I forgot Abram's hat so I coated his head with SPF 50 to ward off the sun. In addition to protecting his scalp we learned that sunscreen is a pretty awesome styling gel. Zoom in to this picture to see.)

Six Months Old!

We're back to blogging after a bit of an absence. Daniel and I both had a stomach virus, but somehow Abram stayed well...an answered prayer! We are fine now and just enjoyed having my mom down for a visit. We should have more pictures for viewing soon, but this is a

glimpse of Abram's Easter pictures. We had a lot of fun taking these today!

Abram has begun eating solid foods now. He's not so crazy about plain old rice cereal.

We've added bananas and will soon start sweet potatoes. I'm making my own baby food

right now, using Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron as the guide. It's pretty easy and saves us a little money at the grocery store.

I love this picture and I love my family!

Abram can now sit up on his own! Keep in mind he really rests on his big belly, but he can play like this for a while without tipping over. He loves his new view of the world. When he's laying on his back now for any length of time, he begins to do "crunches" trying to sit up.

Abram has learned to roll over one way! He automatically gets on his right side anytime I lay him down now. He's still figuring out the best way to move that arm that always ends up underneath him though. Isn't it wonderful how God creates us! He has wired those little babies to try and try and try until they can do something new. What an example of perserverence!

So now that two folks have tagged me, I guess I'll go. Seven things about me, hmmmm.....

1. I secretly desire to complete a triathlon. My athletic husband has worn me down to actually considering this. The swimming part I think I could do in my sleep, but the other two...I hate to run and I don't have a bike. So I'll just keep dreaming about it but not start the training.

2. I used to vomit a little in my mouth at the sound of clipping nails. It didn't matter who it was...if I heard you I hated you for a minute. Now it doesn't bother me at all. Isn't that weird? A sound that utterly repulsed me doesn't even make me wince anymore.

3. I love to cook. More than that I love to collect recipes. I have a TON of cookbooks and I've even made my own by cutting out/copying recipes down. 4. I love to grab my dog's tongue when he sticks it out just to mess with him. It's freakishly long and stretches a good bit. He loves it. I truly entertain myself this way.

5. I LOVE America's Next Top Model. Tyra should really consider having me as a guest judge on the next cycle. I've watched each season and after a couple of challenges and photo shoots, I can tell you who's going home and who's staying for drama and who's going to win. "The next name that I'm going to call is....."

6. I am a project girl. Not like Jenny from the Bronx, more like the Martha Stewart kind. I have a new passion for crafty stuff. I like to make things...random things...and I love shopping at Michael's. I'm even turing half of my closet into a craft station!

7. I've always loved to dance, everyone knows that. But when I was younger and trying to think about God-given talents and spiritual gifts, I actually thought that I was supposed to be a back up dancer for Carmen. (You know you liked Carmen in the 80's.) I was convinced that that was my ticket to dancing for the Lord. Now that I know a little more about spiritual gifts I can definitely say dancing with Carmen is not one of them. At least not one of mine.

Well we are now the proud parents of a 4 month old. I was just telling Daniel that I can't believe we've had this little guy around that long. He's wonderful and so calm and happy most days. He is sick right now though. Just a cold, but he's still pretty pitiful at times. Maybe when he's well I'll post more frequently. Life has been pretty busy trying to recoup from the holidays. Daniel has begun his busy season so keep him (and me and Abram) in your prayers.

Daniel's brother ran in the Mississippi Blues Marathon on Saturday and we were able to cheer him on. He did incredibly well and acheived his goal. Supporting the runners reminded me of doing the same with Daniel in Washington D.C. over a year ago as he ran in the Marine Corp Marathon. It's amazing to know the committment and dedication it takes to train (torture) yourself until you can run 26.2 miles (and not die). Just wanted to share pics from Washington in 2006. I'm still so proud of my husband!

Can you believe it? Abram's already three months old. Time sure does fly. We are enjoying this little guy so much and I wanted you to see how cute he is. We took this in the backyard just being silly...and it turned out to be one of my favorite pictures of him so far.

Lately, Abram has really begun showing his cute little personality. He loves to smile and stare at his dad. He's also a big fan of holding his head up and trying to sit up too. Abram has some fun buddies from church, and when we get them together they are so stinking adorable. They look like three old men watching the game on the tube! Abram has also found his thumb. It's so cute to watch him finally get it in his mouth (which sometimes is quite an effort). He starts sucking his thumb when he's tired...and I think it helps to lull him to sleep. He's such a fun little guy and we are really enjoying being his parents.

I can hardly believe it, but Abram is now 2 months old. He's growing like a weed...as you can see from the pictures. If you look closely you can see the yellow band aid from his shots that day. At his 2 month appointment he weighed 15 pounds and 1 ounce and was 25 inches long. Look out NFL scouts! He's doing great and we are thankful for his health.

One Month Old!

So far Daniel has done all the blogging, but here is my first shot at this.

Who can believe our son Abram is already one month old?!?! I was inspired by my friend Lauren's post to give glory to God for our wonderful son. We've had sleepless nights, one million and one questions, one million and one different pieces of advice, and too many dirty diapers to count. But one thing remains true...no matter how tough a moment might seem, God gives us grace to make it and wisdom (so far) in knowing how to care for Abram. He is truly a beautiful and wonderful child, and Daniel and I marvel at his health and little acheivments all the time.

Our first month has brought many changes such as moving up in sizes for clothes and diapers, a new belly button, learning the difference between nighttime and daytime, and being more alert and focusing on mom and dad while we talk to him. These changes are really fun and remind us that in a short time, we'll look back and be amazed at how time flies. For now we are still learning so much and still enjoying our new lives as parents!

down past the previous two posts just looking for an Abram update. So here it is. He is still doing great. Don't know his current weight, but I'll tell you this...it's not going down. His cheeks are at least twice as big as they were last week...very fun for squeezing. And with all this weight he's gaining, he has to be setting new records for diapers used in one day. I think Shea is talking to him while I'm off at work and telling him how I'm cheap. So now I am pretty sure he is intentionally waiting until I've just put a new diaper on him and then immediately filling it up. But regardless, Shea and I absolutely love him!

Politics. I have an interest in politics, mainly because most places I look, I see it being done so wrongly. Of course, votes or public policy positions regarding matters of morality are fairly easy to distinguish. But aside from that, what truly drives my thinking is big government versus small government. The MS Center for Public Policy lists 10 governing principles. I will discuss 2 of them.

"Government exists to protect rights, not to create them" - The Declaration of Independence states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men... Government should "secure" rights, not create them. Unalienable rights require nothing from anyone else, except respect. Compare this with the current thought that it is my "right" to free healthcare. I won't even try to go into all of the complexities and enforcement and regulators and agencies necessary to provide this "right." And providing that for me will most certainly require something from others...their money! Is such an idea a product of big government or small government?

"Individuals are ultimately responsible for governing themselves and for the consequences of their decisions" - This principle basically speaks to the need for personal responsibility. Due to the US government enabling this kind of thinking, many Americans today depend on government programs for income, housing, healthcare, and education. Food and and shelter are no longer the product of hard work but are viewed as "rights," "or "entitlements." I know it's easy to say this and point the finger when I've never had to skip a meal or sleep on the streets, but even in those situations, there is still personal responsibility. As an aside, churches and other private charities have proven over and over to be far more effective at lending aid than the government can ever do. Again, big government or small government...

Well, despite my best creative efforts to design a blog that measures up to those of our friends, I do believe, "failed" is the word that comes to mind. I guess that's why I'm an accountant...no creativity required. What was red and blue all over without a hint of Ole Miss on it? Daniel and Shea's blog! Well, not any longer. Which leads me to my first P...Patriotism.

I've read three military history books this year (Flags of our Fathers, Flyboys, and Don't Tread on Me). Reading these, as well as reflecting on what's going on in the world today, has really reminded me that even in 2007 America still needs Patriots. I'm not planning on dressing up like Mel Gibson anytime soon, but the fight for our freedom still exists. These books have also really helped me to be more mindful of all that I have to be thankful for as an American. So many people throughout history have sacrificed so I can enjoy the America that exists today. I desire to live a life that honors that sacrifice. Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free. ~Ronald Reagan

Call it a coincidence, but we couldn't help but notice that since September 6, 2007, when Abram arrived, the Bulldogs are 2-0. Now last week he was a little out of it, but he still propelled the Dogs on to victory, but yesterday, Abram jumped right in and yelled at the TV with his dad, which obviously helped to finish off Auburn. So, beware Gardner-Webb. MSU has "Superfan!"

In Psalm 8, David seeks to give unto God the glory due to his name. “How majestic is Your name in all the earth!” How bright this glory shines even in this lower world! But how much brighter it shines in the upper world! We, on this earth, only hear God's excellent name, and we praise that. The angels and blessed spirits above can see his glory, and they praise that. Yet he is exalted far above even their blessing and praise.

The grace of God appears wonderfully in small children. How amazing that the most frail and delicate little thing can reflect God’s glory in such an enormous way! Verse 2 states, “from the lips of children and infants You have ordained praise.” And as Shea and I sit and watch his tiny lips move about as he makes all of his funny little expressions, there is no other response but to praise our God and give glory to His name.

We couldn’t be more thankful for this precious gift in our lives.
